Inbuilt, which specialises in sustainable buildings, communities and construction, launches today. It will provide technical and consulting services in the research, design and delivery of sustainable built environments. Inbuilt is part of the RES Group, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies.

Inbuilt's chief executive is Dr David Strong, who recently won Building magazine’s 2007 Sustainability Leadership Award and founded the UK Green Building Council. Prior to establishing Inbuilt, David Strong was managing director of BRE Environment.

The consultancy’s executive team includes:

  • Dr Neil Cutland - Neil will direct Inbuilt’s low and zero carbon housing team. He was previously director of BRE’s Housing Best Practice and Low Carbon Futures Centre, where he was responsible for BRE’s work on delivering the government’s/EST’s Energy Efficiency Best Practice in Housing Programme.

  • Matthew Brundle - Previously a technical director at WSP where he co-established their specialist sustainability and environmental planning business, Matthew is responsible for leading Inbuilt’s work on low/zero carbon non-domestic buildings and sustainable built environments (including, water, ecology, drainage, materials, green roofs and facades, construction waste, etc.)

Inbuilt’s technical capability has also been strengthened by the recent integration of members of Beyond Green’s sustainable technology and construction team, led by Chris Watts.

Inbuilt’s services cover the full spectrum of planning, building design, construction and regeneration, ranging from sustainable master planning for entire towns and communities to building design at the component level.

Dr Ian Mays, chief executive of the RES Group said; “We now have a full complement of technical and design skills to undertake major consultancy assignments. Early interest in our services from prospective clients has been exceptional.”

David Strong, Inbuilt’s chief executive said: “We are open for business and already working for clients who share our ambition and values. No greenwash, no tokenism – just a clear commitment to improving the way communities and buildings are planned, designed, built and managed.”

He added: “We aim to ensure that sustainability becomes ‘inbuilt’, by working in  partnership with our clients to deliver spaces, places and buildings which are genuinely sustainable – healthy, safe, productive and inspiring – and fit for people and the environment.

“Drawing our inspiration from nature and natural systems we find low-energy, low-cost ways to heat, cool, ventilate and illuminate our buildings. Our objective is to ‘design out’ technical complexity and cost by challenging accepted practices and providing innovative, practical solutions for the built environment.”
