Inbuilt launches attitude survey on sustainability assessment methods

26 February 2008

Inbuilt is launching a national survey at Ecobuild on the main assessment methods used by UK designers, planners and policy makers to measure sustainability in new buildings.

The research will ask professionals across the property development and construction industries whether methods such as the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building rating system™, and the Code for Sustainable Homes provide a sufficiently holistic assessment of sustainability, and will invite them to share their views on the issue.

Commenting on the reasons behind the survey, Dr David Strong, chief executive of Inbuilt, said:

“There is a proliferation of tools available to designers, developers and others who want to measure the performance of their new buildings, and vital decisions on funding, planning permission and investment are increasingly being made on the basis of these measurements. It’s time for a reality check on whether these assessment methods are meeting our needs and supporting the UK’s sustainability aims.”

Everyone who completes the short survey will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win two great prizes.

The first prize is a hotel gift voucher for a holiday at the highly acclaimed and family-friendly Bedruthan Steps Hotel and Ocean Spa in North Cornwall. The hotel is a Green Tourism Gold Award winner and was the Sustainable Tourism Award Winner of Winners in 2005. Also included is an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the Eden Project, plus £100 to spend on dinner, spa treatments or other local activities. The second prize is a Trevor Bayliss Eco Media Player.
