Inbuilt consultants achieve BREEAM AP status

29th October 2009

Melanie Starrs and Victoria Kate Burrows at sustainability consultancy Inbuilt are among the first wave of experts in the country to achieve the new BREEAM Accredited Professionals (BREEAM AP) qualification.

Melanie Starrs is principal consultant at Inbuilt, and Victoria Burrows is a senior sustainability consultant.  Both work closely with clients’ design teams, providing expert advice on built environment sustainability, environmental design and environmental assessment including lifecycle assessment and cost analysis. As integral members of the design team they schedule activities, set priorities and negotiate the tradeoffs required to achieve the highest BREEAM ratings.  Both also have additional expertise in building services and the specification of renewable energy technologies, and can therefore ensure that BREEAM criteria requirements are integrated into the building design.

BREEAM is one of the most widely used environmental assessment methods for UK buildings. The BREEAM AP qualification was launched earlier this year following an industry call for a more formal recognition of specialist skills in the use of BREEAM and the design of sustainable buildings.

Dr David Strong, chief executive at Inbuilt, said: “Mel and Vicky have been justly recognised for their expertise, and we are very proud to have them as part of the Inbuilt team. They are currently working with our clients to help them achieve BREEAM Excellent and Outstanding ratings on several high-profile projects. Their experience, skills and qualifications give added reassurance to our clients that we can offer the technical services they need, but combined with a much broader understanding of what it means to create genuine sustainability within the built environment.”
