Low energy residential project
BRINGING GLOBAL BEST PRACTICE TO THE UK
Inbuilt was appointed to provide sustainability advice for an exciting new low energy residential quarter in the heart of Milton Keynes. The scheme covers 2.9 hectares, comprising 650 homes as well as 2,000 sq m of retail space.
The scheme is part of the Concerto project, a pan-European initiative on low carbon sustainable communities designed to showcase environmental best practices. The local planning demands and the criteria required by the Concerto project are substantially higher than current UK legislation, making the scheme extremely demanding.
We have guided the design team on ultra-low energy design standards, and provided recommendations on a wide range of issues – from sustainable transport to the development of the largest district heating and power system in the UK.
Through use of Inbuilt’s unique sustainability management tool, S-MAP, we helped to achieve true collaborative working across the whole design team, and to deliver more than 200 challenging sustainability targets on this complex mixed use scheme.
