PRIVATE HOUSING, JOHN NORTH HALL
R&D - a business essential
Although house builders have very tight control of costs the
leaders recognise the need to continually review their approach, to
make savings today and prepare for the tough changes in standards
that lie ahead. Having demonstrated our expertise on previous
projects Fairview asked Inbuilt to help develop a specification
that would deliver a 25% carbon reduction without the need for
renewables.
Understanding needs
It is essential to understand the
wider needs of the company - previous experiences, existing supply
chain, and other key influencers within the organisation. Only then
can the constraints be understood and a specification developed
that will be accepted on site and in the boardroom.
Inbuilt assessed multiple specifications, gradually honing and
refining the options in response to the Client feedback. Inbuilt
quickly work through outline specifications to look at the minutiae
- alternative wall ties, construction details and product
availability - all are essential factors to delivering energy
efficient buildings. Our detailed knowledge of SAP and other
assessment tools allows us to get meaningful results faster.

Appraised about renewables
On parts of the site where renewables were required Inbuilt was
able to optimise the balance of technologies around planning
requirements and Code credits.
High level assessments based on default values can lead to cost
and performance inefficiencies. Inbuilt worked with Fairview and
their suppliers to understand differences between similar products
and optimise roof layouts to deliver both savings today and the
learning needed on the road to 'zero carbon'.
"We have used Inbuilt on a number
of projects. They understand the business and policy pressures we
are under and have the skills and knowledge to deliver the
solutions we need."
