Post construction review of Harefield Rehoming Centre
Inbuilt were approach by Dogs Trust, the UK's leading dog
welfare charity, to undertake a strategic review of their building
portfolio. This began with a strategic sustainability assessment of
their most recent Rehoming Centre at Harefield. The review
identified a number of significant changes that would save energy,
reduce cost and complexity and improve comfort conditions, in the
design of future rehoming centres. Our findings were
qualified by undertaking an occupant survey of staff to assess
their satisfaction with the building and a qualitative comparison
of Harefield with similar sites. The review presented a new
approach to the design of rehoming centre's and energy management
actions at existing sites.
Renewable Energy Review
A comprehensive review of Dog's Trust landholdings at 17
sites across the UK was undertaken, to determine the potential
offered for revenue generation, by installing small and medium
scale wind turbines and/or by growing biomass crops.
Sustainable Design Advice -Roden Rehoming
Centre
Inbuilt have been assisting Dogs Trust to ensure that their
latest Rehoming Centre is an exemplary sustainable building.
As Dogs Trust's sustainable design advisors we've influenced and
informed the Roden Rehoming Centre's architectural design and
developed the concept M&E specification. The new building will
have ultra-low energy consumption (and carbon emissions) -
delivered through passive measures and renewable energy systems
underpinned by the energy conserving Passivhaus approach. We also
produced a sustainability statement for Roden which helped achieve
a successful planning submission. One of our BREEAM Accredited
Professionals is currently working with the client, design team and
contractor with the objective of delivering the world's first
BREEAM Outstanding Rehoming Centre.
