Professor David Strong - Chief Executive
David Strong launched Inbuilt in December 2007. Previously, he
was Managing Director of BRE Environment, and before that he had
also held roles as an Executive Director of EA Technology, Emstar
and WS Atkins & Partners. Originally a graduate of Bath
University in Building Engineering, he was awarded a doctorate by
Oxford University in 1980. David is currently Chairman of the EU
Energy Performance of Buildings Directive Implementation Advisory
Group (DIAG) and acts as a special advisor to the European
Commission on energy demand issues. He is also a Visiting Professor
at the University of Nottingham. He chaired the Quality of Life
Challenge, Built Environment Group for the Conservative Party and
in 2007 was responsible for establishing the UK Green Building
Council, for which he presented with the 2007 Building
Sustainability Leadership award. In 2010 he was appointed Chair of
the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes.

Matthew Brundle - Executive Director
Matthew Brundle joined Inbuilt in October 2007 as a founding
director, where he leads the Sustainability and Renewables teams.
He also has expertise in waste management, pollution control and
sustainability masterplanning. Prior to joining Inbuilt, Matthew
was a Founding Director of WSP Environmental, and co-established
the sustainability and energy businesses. He studied Environmental
Analysis to HND and PGDip at FCT and graduated with an MSc in
Pollution Chemistry from Brunel University in 1990. Matthew is a
member of the Institute of Environmental Sciences; Waste Management
and Energy Institute. He is a regular lecturer at Reading
University on the Sustainable Design and Construction MSc, and
Matthew has been privileged to work on the UK's largest
construction projects including the Channel Tunnel, M25, the
Jubilee Line Extension and Heathrow Terminal 5. As an environmental
and sustainability advisor, internationally Matthew has worked in
China, the Middle East and the USA.

Dr Neil Cutland - Executive Director
Neil Cutland is a founding director of Inbuilt, where he leads
Inbuilt's work on low and zero-carbon buildings. Neil was
previously Director of BRE's Low Carbon Futures Housing Centre, and
before that was Technical Director of National Energy Services Ltd
(NHER). His first job in energy efficiency was as Project Manager
for Milton Keynes Energy Park. Neil has a BSc (Hons) in Physics and
Computer Science and a PhD in Thermal Regenerators, both from the
University of York. Neil sat on the UK Green Building Council's
Zero Carbon Task Group; he is one of the authors of the BREDEM-12
and BREDEM-8 energy models and contributed to the development of
the SAP. He is a Chartered IT Practitioner and a member of the
Institute of Directors.

Jont Cole - Associate
Jont is responsible for business planning, and is the
project director for a number of projects providing strategic
sustainability advice to clients. Previously Jont
co-founded a microgeneration installation company, A Greener Place,
and before that was Facilities Director at the University of
Bristol. A graduate of the University of Bristol in
Biochemistry, he also has an Executive MBA from the London Business
School. As well as the day job, Jont is
Treasurer of Net Impact Professional London Chapter and also a
member of the British Institute of Facilities
Management.

Casimir Iwaszkiewicz - Associate Director
Casimir is responsible for Inbuilt's research activities and
specialises in integrating new energy and construction technologies
into buildings, sites and towns. His previous roles were as an
Associate Director at Beyond Green, a Senior Manager at
Construction Resources and an advisor at the Energy Design Advice
Scheme. Graduating in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic of
Central London with a post-graduate in Environmental Design and
Engineering at the Bartlett-UCL he brings together experience from
of wide range of industries including the built environment,
electronics and commerce. His advisory experience includes
membership of the IMechE Expert Group on Distributed Energy,
Building Regulations working groups and as an invited evaluator of
programmes including TSB and Urban Buzz Sustainable Communities. He
was also heavily involved in introducing renewable energy and
sustainable construction systems into the UK.

Nick Jones - Associate Director
Nick joined Inbuilt in 2007. He has a passion for housing and a
real interest in making sure sustainability works on site as well
as in the boardroom. He has worked directly with major developers
and contractors on the detail and delivery of buildings but is
equally at home working on Government panels about zero carbon
homes.
After starting his professional life with Wimpey Homes in the
late 80s he worked for a major timber frame system supplier. Prior
to joining Inbuilt he worked for BRE covering most aspects of
energy efficiency. Nick holds a BSc Hons in Construction which
underpins his connection with buildings and design teams. In recent
years Nick has produced a whole range of publications on energy
efficient buildings and written extensively for magazines. He is
also responsible for the maintenance of his local church.

Sarah Royse - Principal Consultant
Sarah joined Inbuilt in August 2007 and leads the Strategic
Sustainability service area. Much of Sarah's recent work has
focused on advising clients on a strategic and long-term approach
to sustainability and carbon management. Prior to joining Inbuilt,
Sarah was a partner with Max Fordham LLP, where she was involved in
the mechanical, electrical and environmental design of a variety of
award-winning developments, including the City of London Academy
and the refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall. Sarah graduated
from Durham University with a BSc(Hons) in Physics and Mathematics.
In 2006 she was awarded professional membership of CIBSE (MCIBSE)
and in 2008 won the Association of Consultancy and Engineering's
Young Consultant of the Year award. In recognition of her expertise
in the field of sustainable building and her work to promote
environmental development, Sarah was awarded fellowship of the
Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and
Commerce (FRSA) in 2010. Sarah sits on the Steering Committee for
CIBSE's Energy Performance Group and tutors at Oxford Brookes
University Department of Architecture. She is also a contributor to
the second edition of Sustainable Urban Design (Taylor &
Francis Books Ltd).

Mel Starrs - Principal Consultant
Mel joined Inbuilt in July 2008 and leads the concept M&E
Team, delivering advice on complying and exceeding BREEAM and
planning energy and carbon targets. She is both LEED-AP and
BREEAM-AP. In addition to in-depth knowledge of UK Part L and CIBSE
standards, she has experience of meeting ASHRAE requirements for
LEED.
Previously she worked at Faber Maunsell, Halcrow, Babtie, Whitby
Bird and Max Fordham. A graduate of Leeds University's widely
respected Civil Engineering with Architecture course, she returned
to Leeds University Business School to complete an Executive MBA in
2007. Mel comments on recent news, legislation and developments in
sustainable construction in her blog, Elemental. She is also an
active participant in Sponge and can often be found at networking
events such as Movers and Shakers.

Dr Rick Holland - Senior Consultant
Rick develops technical and strategic solutions for
sustainability, particularly for schools. He completed a PhD in
novel Post-Occupancy Evaluation Techniques at Nottingham University
in 2006, and his PhD research featured in Building magazine,
Building Services Journal and Property Week magazines. The project
was placed in the Breakthrough Award category at the RFID Industry
Awards 2006 for demonstrating technological transfer of RFID
innovation into other industries. Rick also has an MEng in
mechanical engineering. Before joining Inbuilt in 2008, he worked
at Buro Happold Engineering on sustainable design.

James Bonell - Consultant
Engineer
James specialises in low energy building design and modelling,
particularly using the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) and
thermal detailing software. Prior to joining Inbuilt in November
2007, he worked as a researcher and consultant at Beyond Green in
the Sustainable Construction and Technologies team. With a Masters
in Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology from the
University of Warwick, he is now a qualified On Construction
Domestic Energy Assessor. James enjoys a range of outdoor pursuits
and can usually be found (though he'd never, ever admit to being
lost...) striding up a mountain or floating down a river.
Occasionally he ventures into hands-on natural building projects as
a volunteer, which ties in well with the modelling side of the day
job.

Victoria Kate Burrows - Senior Sustainable Design
Consultant
Victoria is Inbuilt's service coordinator for BREEAM related
work. She is qualified in most BREEAM schemes and achieved the
sought-after BREEAM-AP qualification in August 2009. Before joining
Inbuilt, Victoria worked as a BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes
and NHER SAP assessor for Totalbuild Services Ltd during final year
of her university studies. On a placement year during university
she worked at BRE developing BREEAM schemes and the Code, and
training assessors. Victoria has a BSc (Hons) in Architecture and
Environmental Design from the University of Nottingham in July
2008, and is currently working towards her CIBSE chartership. She
is a keen supporter of Wasps Rugby.

Roya Khaleeli - Senior Sustainability
Consultant
Roya joined Inbuilt in November 2007 and is part of the
Strategic Sustainability Team. She took the lead role in developing
Inbuilt's Framework for Sustainable Development (IFSD) which is
based on The Natural Step principles for sustainability and the
wide range of knowledge and experience of Inbuilt's staff. Roya has
been involved in delivering training to large organizations and in
developing and facilitating Inbuilt's Visioning Forums. Most
recently she's been working with a design team to embed
sustainability into a large urban extension in Hampshire.
Previously Roya was a Consultant at Beyond Green integrating
sustainability into a range of developments including a zero-carbon
challenge and an urban regeneration scheme. She also spent three
years as a Project Engineer in the automotive supply chain and 18
months as a Teaching Assistant and Researcher. She has a Masters in
Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability (MSLS) from the
Blekinge Institute of Technology (Sweden), and a Bachelors of
Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Waterloo (Canada). Roya contributed to the book How to Reduce your
Carbon Footprint: 365 practical ways to make a real difference
(Yarrow 2008) and outside of work is learning the art of flamenco
dancing.

Daniel Leahy - Consultant
Daniel is responsible for renewable energy feasibility and
deployment across all technologies - wind, biomass, photovoltaics,
solar hot water and ground source heat pumps. He has a particular
interest in large scale wind turbine development and has worked on
a number of onshore schemes. Previously, he worked as a technical
project manager for Quiet Revolution and Renewable Devices. Daniel
is a Bachelor of Environmental Science and is an active member of
the Australian and New Zealand Environmental Institute. When not in
the office, he is kept on his toes by his mischievous 1 year
old. |

Tamsin McCabe - Consultant
Tamsin delivers strategic sustainable design advice for
schemes, using tools such as the Code for Sustainable Homes and
BREEAM. Other work undertaken includes research into 'softer'
issues such as biodiversity and public attitudes to green building.
Prior to her MSc, Tamsin undertook work experience at LEDA (Leeds
Environmental Design Associates), and while studying she was
involved in the Zero Carbon Britain research. Recently awarded an
MSc Architecture: Advanced Environment and Energy Studies, Tamsin
also has a BSc in Environmental Studies and Marketing. In October
2008, Tamsin organised the Annual Sustainable Science Symposium at
the Centre for Alternative Technology. |

Susan Schnadhorst - Consultant
Part of the Passivhaus team, Susan liaises with German-speaking
contacts. She also conducts Energy Saving Trust research on new
technologies and new-build projects, sustainability in the care
home sector and BREEAM strategic advice and assessment. Susan
worked at Taylor Woodrow as a Code for Sustainable Homes consultant
specialising in helping the supply chain comply with the material
credits; she also previously worked with the London Energy
Partnership and the RSPB. Susan studied Politics as an
undergraduate at the University of New South Wales and
Environmental Science at the University of Stirling; she also has
an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London.
She is a member of CE's Sustainability Working Group and the All
Party Parliamentary Group on Climate Change, and an LEA School
Governor at a local primary school.

Paul Smyth - Senior Consultant
Since joining in 2007 Paul has led the development of
Inbuilt's Passivhaus business. He specialises in low energy
building design but his keen interest in all things sustainable
sees him working across disciplines giving strategic support and
design advice on a wide range of projects, from business plans to
masterplans. While studying for his Masters in
Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology at the University of
Warwick Paul was an active campaigner and a finalist for the UK
Young Campaigner of the Year Award. At University he worked
sporadically at the consultancy Beyond Green, contributing to a
review of CABE's guidance on environmental sustainability. Prior to
joining Inbuilt, he spent the summer researching low cost housing
(and enjoying the sun) in rural Uganda. Outside of
work Paul can be found growing vegetables in his garden, trying to
play football, and dabbling in various film, art and design
projects - including "Car Park", the transformation of a car into a
garden for 2008's London Festival of Architecture. |

Will Wright - Consultant
William's role at Inbuilt is in building energy modelling
including Passivhaus and Part L compliance, and renewable energy
feasibility studies. He joined Inbuilt in January 2008 after
graduating his PhD in renewable energy modelling from the Institute
of Energy and Sustainable Development, De Montfort University. He
also holds an MSc in Energy Systems and the Environment from
Strathclyde University's Energy Systems Research Unit. He enjoys
hill walking in the Munros or Snowdonia any chance he can get,
although more usually he will end up rambling in the
Chilterns. |
